iTrapshooter.com:
How would you like to be presented in this article? Mr. Britt Robinson, the fastest trapshooter that anybody’s ever seen?

Britt:  Just put Britt.  That’s fine with me.

iTrapshooter.com:  Okay.  We recently did a story about the effect interrupters had when first introduced.   Was it easier prior to the addition of interrupters?

Britt:  No, it wasn’t easier because you didn’t have to read the trap.  Back then, in that era that you’re talking about, we shot a true fifty yard target and it was a 3 hole target.  When they changed and moved it to the 2 hole, it changed stuff more than interrupters did because there’s no need to read the trap if you do it right.

The way I shot or the way you teach somebody to shoot, it’s really a disadvantage because 90% of the people don’t have enough self-discipline to do it right. It was just like those five people (in Gillette, WY), instead of holding where they normally hold, they changed their whole routine and moved because they knew it was going to be a certain target and then they boom, they tried to snap shoot it or short shoot it.

Realize how important the very basics of shooting trap are.  Keep the gun still, have the same mount, your stance, keep your head on the stock and shoot a very basic same timing.  Once you get outside of that, you can’t teach somebody how to shoot a shotgun.  The mechanics, you can tell them what they need to do, but you can’t teach them to be disciplined.  In other words, if a person handles a gun better then another one, that person’s going to beat that other one like a drum. You can’t give them that.  You can’t give them that mental concentration; what it feels like to really stay focused for a hundred targets.

What happens when you’ve got a good score and have to break the last twenty-five straight?  You can’t give somebody  that feeling of what the pressure’s going to be to break that last twenty-five or to break the last ten to win a handicap.  How do you know how that person’s going to react pressure-wise?  You know, people just react different inside.  That’s the hardest part to try to teach somebody.  You can’t teach that or give it to them.
